Lookouts Annual CFP - 2027
This issue of Lookouts deals with the continuing evolution of fire lookouts. Specifically, we are looking for contributions that deal with the re-imagining of the lookout through the lens of alternative uses, disciplinary applications, or bizarre design ideas. This may include things like fire lookout for non-fire detection (think back country rescue, wildlife observation, artistic expression, etc.) or the lookout as a place for recreation or the modern iconography of wild places (depictions in popular culture, social media, multimodal art, etc.).
We are also interested in featuring articles that talk about modifications to fire lookouts, or more specifically the ad hoc, "improvisational improvements" made to fire lookouts that creates unique variations of the lookout that specifically deviate from the original design (R6, L4, etc.) in order to resonate with outside forces (societal, economic, technological, recreationist, individual, etc).
